ELEVEN workers of a big private manufacturing company in Barangay Labayug in Sison town registered positive for COVID-19 on November 1 and instantly became the town with the second highest cases in Pangasinan.

In an advisory, Sison Mayor Danilo Uy said the infected workers, all men, were asymptomatic with no significant history of travel staying in the company’s barracks, have been transported by their employer to a hotel in Quezon City where they were quarantined.

The Municipal Health Officer indicated that infection may have been the result of local transmission.

Consequently, Mayor Uy said the local Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Infectious Diseases (IATF) recommended the lockdown of Barangay Labayug and the plant was ordered closed for disinfection and decontamination.

The oldest among those infected was 56 while the youngest is 26 years old.

Meanwhile, another new confirmed case in Sison was a 57-year-old woman from Barangay Amagbagan, and has been confined at the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center in San Fernando City, La Union. She was asymptomatic with no significant history of travel.

In the tally of the Provincial Health Office, Sison has logged 19 COVID-19 active cases, while Dagupan still has logged the highest with 105 active cases as of November 4. (Leonardo Micua)
