BIR files tax cases vs. businessmen

THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR)-Region 1 Office in Calasiao has filed 10 separate criminal complaints against delinquent businessmen for willful failure to pay taxes from 2012 to 2016 in an aggregate amount of tax liability amounting to P154-million.

A report dated Oct. 23 from the BIR-Region 1 Office said that three corporations and their responsible officers were charged for violating Section 255 in relation to Sections 253 (d) and 256 of the Tax Code: Edward Santos Trucking Inc. (ESTI) and corporate officers (Lourdes Santos and Sharon Piedad) Super 8 Concrete Inc., (Martin Gan and Evelina Tan) Chrisness Shipping Corp. (Elizabeth Nehrujee and Jennifer Yutuc)

Seven proprietors were also charged for violating Section 255 of the Tax Code: Laniya Diaz, Drexel Oliveros Dy, Erlinda Tordesillas, Mariven Navarro, Lemuel Consolacion, Faivo Bartolome and Violeta San Juan.

Super 8 in Urdaneta City, was charged for total deficiency tax liability of P90,324,882.11 in 2012 while Chrisness also based in Urdaneta City, is sued for total deficiency tax liability of P6,796,207.13 in 2012.

Diaz, proprietress of L.M. Diaz Trading and Construction based in Dagupan City, is facing tax liability of P17,308, 642.04 in 2014; Dy, proprietor of GTD Hardware in Dagupan City, has tax liability of P5,348,833.28 in 2012;

Navarro, proprietor of Ethan Kyla Merchandise, in Dagupan City, has tax liability of P11,324,952.57 in 2014. San Juan, proprietress of Fapa Gas Refilling Station located in Urdaneta City, has tax liability of P9,465, 638.69 in 2016.

Outside Pangasinan, ESTI, based in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte was sued for P9,636,011.77 tax deficiency in 2014;  Consolacion, proprietor of North Med Enterprise in San Fernando City, La Union, has tax liability of P2,239,745.73 in 2014; Bartolome, proprietor of Dashma Computer Systems & Services and Ilocostop Convenience Store in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte has tax liability of P6,138, 469.40 in 2012, Tordesillas, proprietress of Pedritos Bakeshop and Restaurant in Bangui, Ilocos Norte , is facing tax liability of P5,026,689.32 in 2013

BIR Calasiao records of investigation showed that the respondents failed to either pay or protest and submit relevant supporting documents to either substantiate their claims or to refute said assessments or to file an appeal with the Court of Tax Appeals, thus making the assessments final, executory and demandable.

The 10 delinquent taxpayers are the 693rd to 702nd cases filed under the Run After Tax Evaders program of the BIR under the leadership of Commissioner Caesar Dulay.  (PhilStar Wire Service/ECV)
