ANOTHER P100,000 has been added to the P200,000 reward being offered by a group of businessmen in eastern Pangasinan for vital information that could lead to the speedy arrest of perpetrators in the gun slay of a local journalist on Nov. 10 in Villasis.

Local businessman Rosendo So, representing the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said the additional P100,000 will be provided by former Fifth District Rep. Mark Cojuangco to help get justice for Virgilio Maganes, 62, of the Northern Watch.

Maganes, who was walking back to the compound of his residence in Sitio Licsab, Barangay San Blas early morning was shot dead by motorcycle-riding perpetrators believed to be contract killers.

P/Brig. Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr, Police Regional Office 1 director, said the Special Investigation Task Group Maganes he created to probe the newsman’s murder, is still conducting a thorough investigation, including backtracking of the case as the victim was earlier wounded in a gun attack in 2016.

Both happened few days after Maganes celebrated his birthday.

Azurin said he didn’t give a deadline to the probers to avoid unnecessary pressure on them but assured that this will be a priority case in the region.

He added that they are also looking at an information provided to the police about a pending cyber libel case Maganes was facing prior to his killing.

He encouraged everyone, especially the local media, to report any information relevant to the case through their hotline numbers: PNP PRO1 072-700-0518,  09178407783, 09209686779 or at PANGASINAN PPO 075-542-7185 and 09171489938.

“Again, the speedy resolution of this case is under our priority. We will not stop until justice is served,” Azurin said. (PhilStar Wire Service/ECV)
