SOON there will be 559 public utility jeepneys (PUJs) plying the routes inside Dagupan City when the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) issues special permits to another batch of 354 to ply city routes in Dagupan City.

The number is in addition to the 204 units of PUJs already granted special permits last month upon the request of the Alliance of United Transport Organizations Provincewide (AUTOPro) headed by Bernard Tuliao.

Regional Memorandum Circular No. 2020-01-0007 dated September 9, 2020 signed by LTFRB Regional Director Nasrudin Talispan directed the “Resumption of Operation of All Public Utility Vehicles in Every Existing Intra City Route in Dagupan City”.

Under the memorandum, the Dagupan City-Bolosan Salisay route will be allocated 40 more PUJs; Dagupan City-Bonuan Binloc, 44 units; Dagupan City-Bonuan Boquig, 67 units; Dagupan City-Bonuan Gueset/Tondaligan, 84 units; Dagupan City-CSI Lucao, 40 units; and Dagupan City-Downtown Loop Service, 79 units.

Last month, the Dagupan City-Bolosan Salisay was allocated only 24 units; Dagupan City-Bonuan Binloc, 26 units; Dagupan City-Bonuan Boquig, 41 units; Dagupan-Bonuan Gueset/Tondaligan, 50 units; Dagupan City-CSI Lucao, 16 units; and Dagupan City-Downtown Loop, 47 units.

Talispan said the increased number of PUJs in Dagupan is expected to meet existing passenger demand as requested by Dagupan City government and AUTOPro.

In the same memorandum, Talispan ordered that the minimum fare for traditional jeepneys is P9 for the first four kilometers and an additional P1.50 for every succeeding kilometer.

The modernized PUJs will charge the minimum fare is P11 for every four kilometers and an additional P1,50 to P1.80 for every succeeding kilometer.

He added that PUJs whose operators are members of consolidated cooperative or corporation and whose units have been certified as road worthy by the Land Transportation Office will have priority. (Leonardo Micua)
