A LADY driver in Urdaneta City, who earns a living by conveying passengers to their destinations in her car, was stabbed by the person who booked her services while traversing Barangay Santa Lucia.

P/Lt. Colonel Vicente Castor Jr., Urdaneta City police chief, said the victim, Lea Codera, 30 years old, is a resident of San Mateo Rizal but rents out her car during the weekends in Urdaneta City for a change so she can also visit her relatives.

According to police investigation, the victim was driving her Mitsubishi Mirage last Monday, September 21 with her customer when the attack happened.

Around 11 a.m., Codera fetched the suspect, who turned out to be a 17-year-old girl, who booked a trip to Quezon City. However, as they drove around ostensibly to pick up another person who actually booked the trip, the suspect suddenly attacked Codera using a seven-inch kitchen knife as they approached the bypass.

According to Codera, the suspect grabbed her hair with one hand while she tried to strike her with a knife with the other hand but was able to deflect the suspect’s attack, causing her to lose control of the car that crashed onto a lamppost.

She managed to get out of the car and asked for help. Residents who responded rushed her to a nearby hospital for treatment of her bloodied hand and other injuries suffered from the car crash.

The suspect immediately fled after the incident but was identified and eventually arrested with the help of a video clip of the suspect prior to the attack.

Castro ruled out robbery as motive after DSWD personnel interviewed the suspect and confirmed that the suspect was suffering from postpartum depression. (She had a child at a young age, but was abandoned by her lover).

Codera is determined to file cases against the suspect. (Ahikam Pasion)
