LATEST PROVINCIAL UPDATE

PANGASINAN entered its most crucial period during the pandemic after four COVID-19 patients died last week, effectively raising the death toll in the province to 18. It happened at a time when the number of active cases still confined in various hospitals was nearing the century mark last September 3, but which was down to 82 the following day with the recovery of 10 more patients.

With community transmission beginning to strongly manifest in all fronts, COVID-19 continues to spike with 43 new confirmed cases added to the list against 36 patients who recovered  as of 9 a.m. on September 4 based on the continuing update from the Provincial Health Office (PHO).

The reported new cases brought the number of active cases already placed in isolation to 92 but this was reduced to just 82 when 10 recovered the following day, raising number of patients who recovered so far to 323.

As of September 4, there were 423 confirmed cases in the province, (50 from Dagupan while 373 were from other towns and cities).

Of the four newly confirmed deaths, two were from Sta. Barbara and one each from Bayambang and Bolinao. The fatalities were: a 58-year old female from Bayambang who died last August 31 after being admitted in the hospital on August 27; a 58-year-old female (who died on September 2 on the day she was admitted in hospital for treatment) and a 76-year-old female (who was hospitalized on August 27 and died on September 3), both from Sta. Barbara; and an 81-year-old male from Bolinao who was admitted on August 24 who died on September 3.

Based on PHO’s September 4 update, Sual still reported the highest number of active COVID-19 cases at 19 followed by Dagupan (14), Mangaldan (7) Sta, Barbara (7), Malasiqui (7), Bayambang (3), Aguilar (5), San Nicolas (3), Lingayen (3), Binmaley (2), Pozorrubio (2)  and one each from Agno, Alaminos City, San Fabian, San Jacinto, Mapandan, Urdaneta  City, Binalonan, San Manuel, Natividad and Umingan.

The 10 newly recovered patients as of 9 a.m. on September 4 are a 50-year-old female, a 20-year-old female and an 18-year-old male from Bayambang; a 52-year-old female from Binmaley; a 38-year old female from Calasiao; and a 59-year-old female, a 29-year-old female, a 35-year-old male, a 40-year-old male and a 34-year-old male from Mangaldan.

Local transmission is confirmed by reports that among those who tested positive for COVID-19 were persons classified as Locally Stranded Individuals (LSIs) that arrived from Manila and infected their relatives in the province with no history of travel at all.

Meanwhile, Pangasinan has already opened its borders to Tarlac and Zambales but persons from the two provinces are still required to submit to RT-PCR test. (Leonardo Micua)
