Dengue cases in Pangasinan down 56%

THE provincial government is seeing a 56% decrease in dengue cases compared to last year over the same period that ended on August 31.

According to Dr. Anna de Guzman, provincial health officer, 2,123 cases were recorded from January to August 31 this year, compared to 4,780 cases tallied the same period in 2019, or a 56% decrease.

However, the number of deaths from dengue increased by one, with 13 persons died this year, compared to last year’s 12.

De Guzman attributed the decrease in dengue cases to the series of quarantine lockdowns that enabled households to have time to clean and clear their surroundings.

Meanwhile, De Guzman said the towns of Malasiqui, Umingan, Bugallon, and San Carlos City have been placed on dengue watch list due to their concentrated number of patients.

Barangay officials have been instructed to monitor the situation, and to seek out potential mosquito breeding grounds in their villages. (Ahikam Pasion)
