THE contagion of COVID-19 has already affected 56 personnel of the Police Regional Office 1 since the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine on March 15.

PRO 1 director Brig. Gen. Rodolfo Azurin, Jr. admitted on September 7 that the 56 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 25 are active cases and 31 have recovered.

Azurin said of the 25 active cases, two were determined to be mildly symptomatic while 23 were asymptomatic, after 856 of 8,631 personnel were tested by RT-PCR.  Included among those tested were personnel who had close contact with the positive cases.

And 21 of the 25 active cases were from the Regional Headquarters of PRO1 in Camp Oscar Florendo, San Fernando City in La Union, and two from the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office and one from the NSU.

No cases reported in Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte.

Among the positive cases, one is currently isolated in a hospital, one is under strict home quarantine while other 23 patients are being housed in an isolation facility.

Azurin has ordered the Police Regional Health Service and the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division to intensify contact tracing of individuals who may have had close contact with the infected personnel.

“As of now, we are trying to establish that for every positive case of COVID-19, whether asymptomatic or not, we are observing a 40 contact tracing protocol,” Azurin said.

He also ordered the regional headquarters on indefinite lockdown effective last week, pending the results of the recent swab tests conducted on the personnel. (Leonardo Micua/Jerick Pasiliao/Philstar Wire Service/ECV)
