BINMALEY Mayor Simplicio Rosario issued an executive order directing the closure of all cemeteries and memorial parks in the municipality from Oct. 30 to Nov. 3.

Rosario said the order is intended to protect residents amid a spike in the number of  COVID-19 cases in the town.

He said one of the causes of the surge in the COVID-19 transmission is the gathering and mingling of people in one place in violation of the health protocol on social distancing.

A schedule for cleaning and and visiting graves of relatives has been set per barangay is posted on the official Facebook page Municipality of Binmaley.

Barangay chairmen will issue passes for the scheduled visits of two persons per household to be presented upon their entry in the cemetery.

The order only allows interment and cremation services during Undas season.

During interment, only the immediate family members or 25 persons are allowed to enter the cemetery or memorial park for non-COVID-19 cases.

As of Sept. 17, Binmaley reported 14 active COVID-19 confirmed cases. (PhilStar Wire Service/ECV)
