THE Bayambang public market and the ‘Bagsakan’ areas of fish and vegetables were closed to the public for five days to give way for the cleaning, decontamination and disinfection after the municipal health office (MHO) recorded the death of a meat vendor from COVID-19.

The closure and cessation of operations was ordered by Mayor Cezar Quiambao through E.O. No. 44, from Sept. 1 until Sept. 5, 2020.

He ordered the reactivation of the ‘mobile market’ as an alternative to provide basic needs of the residents in the barangays as he directed the market vendors to quarantine themselves for seven days to prevent any contagion in the town.

Quiambao also forbade affected market vendors at the public market to join the mobile market and to ensure compliance, special permits were issued to vendors qualified to join the mobile market.

Meanwhile, he directed all the meat, fish, and vegetable section vendors and food stall employees to take the rapid test before they could return to the market.

He warned vendors of arrest if they were found disobeying the guidelines for the closure.

The municipal health office reported that a 58-years-old meat vendor, a resident of Barangay Darawey died at the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital on Aug. 27 after he was administered the RT-PCR test because he was manifesting symptoms of COVID-19. He was buried on Aug. 28.

All the identified individuals who had close contacts with the patient were subjected to RT-PCR testing.

Meanwhile, among the reported confirmed COVID-19 cases on Monday were a 28-years-old worker from Quezon City and a resident of Barangay Bical Norte and a 31- year-old volunteer nurse from Barangay Ambayat 1st. (Jerick Pasiliao)
