THE first confirmed COVID-19 case in Villasis town is a 45-year old-male from Barangay Bacag who arrived from Valenzuela City where he works.

Villasis Mayor Nonato Abrenica said the 45-year-old arrived in his barangay on July 11, went to a private hospital near Villasis for medical consultation on July 17 for his colds, cough and fever.

He was made to take the confirmatory Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction test after he tested positive in his Rapid Test. On July 21, he was confirmed to be a COVID-19 case.

He is now confined at the Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC)) in Dagupan City.

Meanwhile, Mayor Abrenica ordered the purok in Barangay Bacag where the patient resides on temporary lockdown.

The four persons whom the patient had a close contact with had been identified and brought to the Villasis Isolation Center in Barangay Unzad to be quarantined.

The mayor called on his constituents in Barangay Bacag not to panic and to follow the health protocols like wearing of face masks, maintain social distancing, wash hands frequently and boost their immune system.

Until two weeks ago, Villasis was among the 10 towns of Pangasinan still without a single case of COVID-19. (Leonardo Micua)
