A policeman in San Quintin town was wounded after a former colleague shot him last Wednesday afternoon, August 19 in Barangay Lagasit.

P/Lt. Benedict Espinoza, officer-in-charge at San Quintin PNP, identified the victim as P/Staff Sergeant Gaspar Lucena, assigned at the Pangasinan 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) in Tayug.

One of the suspects was the gunman, Robert Carbonel, a dismissed policeman.

Investigation showed that Lucena was hanging around in his hut, when Carbonel, accompanied by a still unidentified man, alighted from their motorcycle and shot the victim several times.

The victim who managed to evade some of the shots was hit twice in the body and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital in Tayug. Carbonel was immediately arrested following a manhunt operation.

“It appears that the motive behind the shooting is an old grudge between the two”, Espinoza said.

Authorities were only able to recover two spent shells and a deformed slug from a caliber .45 pistol due to heavy rains.

Meanwhile, the hunt for Carbonel’s companion continues.  (Ahilkam Pasion)
