A 21-year-old construction worker and resident of Barangay Esmeralda is the first COVID-19 case of Balungao town.

Mayor Maria Theresa Rodriguez-Peralta confirmed that the male patient tested positive for the virus after being swabbed on Jul. 30, although he was asymptomatic.

The patient reportedly travelled from Pasay City, without a travel authority on board a company vehicle on July 25.

The reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test was administered by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) at the Tarlac-Pangasinan border and was quarantined until Aug. 10.

The barangay was quickly ordered locked down for seven days to allow for the extensive contact tracing of the people whom the patient had close contact with.

Meanwhile, his immediate family members were also made to take the RT-PCR test. (Jerick Pasiliao)
