11 RECOVERED, 9 NEW POSITIVE

THE number of active COVID-19 cases in Pangasinan scaled up to 31 at one point last week but eventually dropped to 25 as of 9:00 a.m. on July 10 (from 27 the previous week) as 11 patients who recovered outnumbered the nine new confirmed cases registered from July 3.

The latest two to recover on July 10, according to the Provincial Health Office (PHO) are a 38-year old male from Binmaley who was admitted at the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital in San Carlos City on June 29; and a 39-year-old male from, Umingan who was discharged from the PPH where he was confined since June 30.

Others discharged from the PPH: a 45-year-old policeman from Basista; a 38-year-old male from Mangatarem, a 41-year-old policeman from Bani; a 37-year old female from Malasiqui; a 49-year-old male from Sta. Barbara; a 29-year-old male from Bani; a 41-year-old female from Calasiao; and a 38-year-old male Basista.

Also released from home isolation was a 38-year-old policeman of San Carlos City.

Meanwhile, the nine new COVID-19 cases:

1) A  22-year-old male from San Carlos City who had a travel history in Manila. He went straight to the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital where he sought confinement after he tested positive in his Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction test.

2) A 22-year-old male from Poblacion, Manaoag who first tested negative in Rapid Test on June 28 before going to Manila to apply for a job overseas, then later tested positive in RT-PCR, test in Manila. He is now confined in an isolation facility in Manila.

3) A 29-year-old female from Natividad who traveled from Sta. Rosa, Laguna, was a locally stranded individual (LSI). She was made to take the swab test and tested positive although asymptomatic.  As a result, Natividad Mayor Rosita Rafael placed Barangay Cacandungan under temporary lockdown. She is presently kept in isolation at the Natividad isolation facility.

4) Two overseas workers: One a 31-year-old Overseas Filipino Worker from Barangay Tebeng in Dagupan City who arrived  from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, who tested negative in swab test in Manila only to test positive in Dagupan City; the other, female, who worked in a cruise ship where she was quarantined for two months.

The two first tested negative in their earlier swab tests in Manila and were allowed to go home on an OWWA chartered bus. Upon arrival in Dagupan, they underwent another swab test at Region 1 Medical Center and both were found positive for COVID-19. The two were confined immediately at RIMC.

5). Others: A 30-year=old male from Bayaoas, Urdaneta City who is on home quarantine, a 18-year-old male from Urbiztondo now confined at PPH, a 52-year-old female from Alaminos City; now confined at the Alaminos City isolation facility, and a 32-year-old male from Bolo, Labrador now staying at Labrador isolation facility.

As this developed, Dr. Rheuel Bobis, COVID-19 focal person in Region 1, noted that most of the new cases in Pangasinan and the Ilocos are now either OFWs or Locally Stranded Individuals with travel history in Metro Manila, the epicenter of the pandemic in the country.

He noted that these persons were already swab tested in the National Capital Region who all turned in negative results but when they repeated the process in the provinces, the results turned out to be positive.

He suspected that after obtaining a negative result or while awaiting the result of their tests, these persons were exposed to the COVID-19 positive persons.

His opinion was shared by Dr. Anna de Guzman, provincial health officer, who noted that no more Pangasinenes are being infected by COVID-19, except those traveling to and from Manila. (Leonardo Micua)
