Lingayen cop nabbed for extortion

A policeman stationed here assigned as investigator, was arrested over alleged extortion Monday.

Arrested in an entrapment set by joint elements of the Lingayen Police Station and the Police Intelligence Unit was P/ Senior Master Sergeant Pedro Vinluan, 38 years old, a resident of Barangay Buenlag in Calasiao, after receiving a complaint from a certain Christopher Rayos, a resident of Barangay Pangapisan Norte, Lingayen.

Lingayen Police Chief P/Lt. Colonel Theodore Perez said Rayos’ wife, Ginalyn Glory Sison, and three others were arrested earlier over violation of PD 1602 (illegal gambling), last June 27.

After their arrest, Vinluan informed Ginalyn allegedly to say that the case filed against her and the others for illegal gambling would not be pursued in exchange for P30, 000.

“According to the complainant, Vinluan acted alone”, said Perez.

It was Rayos who reported the extortion attempt to the Pangasinan Provincial Police Office (PPPO), and lodged his complaint.

Vinluan was arrested by police operatives secretly watching the transaction nearby, shortly after he received the extortion money from the complainant.

Seized from Vinluan were the P15,000 marked money, his service firearm, and his cellphone.

The PPPO filed a case of robbery extortion against Vinluan, who was immediately relieved of his duties.

The suspect was first placed under the custody of the Lingayen Police. (Ahikam Pasion/ Leonardo Micua)
