Gun-for-hire leader neutralized

THE leader of a gun-for-hire group in Eastern Pangasinan died in an armed encounter with policemen manning a checkpoint in Barangay Guiling in Rosales at 10 a.m. on July 9.

The suspect, identified as Charlie Espanto, leader of the Espanto Gun-for Hire Group, riding a motorcycle ignored policemen who flagged him down at a checkpoint.

P/Major Felimon Oligo, Rosales chief of police, said the suspect did not stop when flagged down but instead, Espanto sped off while drawing his handgun and fired at the policemen. No one was hit.

The police shot back and Espanto died on the spot.

Dr. Elizabeth Alimorong, the town’s Rural Health Officer, who was called to the scene declared him dead.
