Active COVID-19 cases rise to 28: 15 new, 13 recoveries

WAR VERSUS CORONAVIRUS

THE number of active COVID-19 cases in Pangasinan has now risen to 28  as of July 17 because  15 new patients were reported from 26 last July 10 while 13 recovered from the disease.

Dr. Anna de Guzman, the provincial health officer, said the remaining 28 active cases were either returning or departing Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) or locally stranded individuals (LSIs).

She said there was no community transmission noted, adding that those who were earlier infected with COVID-19 had their respective histories of travel to and from Manila, still the epicenter of the coronavirus in the Philippines.

As of July 16, the total number of COVID-19 cases registered in Pangasinan stood at 127 (98 from the province and 29 from Dagupan City) from which 92 recovered, 26 are still active  and the death toll remained at nine.

De Guzman said the last COVID-19 death in the province was April 3 or more than 12 weeks ago.

Officials believe that the big number of recovered COVID-19 patients was a factor  behind the decision of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) to further downgrade Pangasinan’s status  to a low-risk area under the Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) beginning July 16.

De Guzman said some of the OFWs transported by the Overseas Workers and Welfare Administration (OWWA) to Pangasinan initially tested negative in Reverse  Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction Test in Manila but tested positive upon their arrival in Pangasinan had to be brought to isolation facilities in Manila.

However,  in the case of a 25-year old OFW from Nalsian, Calasiao, she was tested positive for COVID-19 at the OWWA Quarantine facility in Manila but for a still unknown reason, she was still allowed to go home through the courtesy of the agency.

So, after being fetched by LGU Calasiao from  TPLEx exit  in Carmen, she was immediately brought to the Calasiao Isolation Facility.

The new confirmed cases last July 17 are a 49-year old male from Doyong, Calasiao who was admitted at Calasiao Isolation Facility;  a 35-year old female from Bonuan Binloc; and a 35-year old female from Bolosan, Dagupan City.
