THE Alliance of United Transport Organizations Provincewide (AUTOPRO) has asked the Dagupan City government to endorse its appeal to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Region 1 to issue special permits for 75 more jeepneys to service Dagupan City, in addition to the 45 jeepneys already plying the streets.

This was contained in a letter sent to Mayor Brian Lim on Thursday by Bernard Tuliao, AUTOPRO president, who cited regulations of LTRFB, that the local government units have a say on whether additional permits for public transportation should be granted in their areas.

Tuliao said the present number of jeepneys presently plying Dagupan City is inadequate to service the needs of all commuters, particularly workers going to and fro their workplaces, many of whom are forced to walk from their barangays to the downtown area and back.

He has requested 30 additional jeepneys to service all the Bonuan areas, 10 more for the CSI Lucao route,10 more for downtown Lucao loop, 10 more for Tambac, Mangin, Salisay and Tebeng, route and 15 more for the Calasiao – Dagupan route.

Presently, there are only 10 jeepneys serving the Bonuan areas, 10 for the CSI Lucao route, 10 for the Downtown Loop, 10 for the Tambac, Mangin, Salisay, Tebeng route and 20 for the Calasiao-Dagupan route.

Tuliao said because of the inadequate number of public transportations plying the city streets, efforts to restore economic activities in the city under the modified general community quarantine are not producing results, citing poor patronage of the newly opened malls.

According to Tuliao, he also asked LTFRB to finally allow Bonuan jeepneys to enter the downtown area so that commuters do not have to transfer vehicle just to reach the downtown area, i.e. Presently, jeepneys from Bonuan are told to unload their passengers in front of the former Alimango Restaurant on Arellano Street where they are expected to board another jeepney to continue their commute.

Meanwhile, Autopro’s associations in Sual have secured an endorsement from Gov. Amado Espino III for additional jeepneys to ply in their areas.
He lamented that while Metro Manila is fielding more buses under the General Community Quarantine, Pangasinan and Dagupan under the Modified General Community Quarantine should be faster in fielding more commuter vehicles. (Leonardo Micua)
