Pangasinan registers another COVID-19 case

A man from Sual town who acted as a helper of a refrigerated truck that transports fish to Malabon in Metro Manila, became the first confirmed COVID-19 case in his town, and the 42nd case in Pangasinan.

The Sual case is one of the only two COVID-19 cases remaining to date in Pangasinan.

The other confirmed COVID-19 cases is a 15-year old girl, of Barangay Dupac, Asingan, is now under isolation at the Provincial Quarantine Facility in San Carlos City.

In sum, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) officially registered 42 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 30 recovered and nine deaths.

Mayor Liseldo “Dong” Calugay of Sual, said the latest case is a 28-year old male, married, with two children, was confirmed on May 24 by the Chinese General Hospital in Manila to be positive and is already now under isolation at the Municipal Quarantine Facility.

Calugay placed Barangay Cabalitian under lockdown and ordered a town-wide contact tracing of all persons who the patient may have had contacts.

According to Mayor Calugay, the fish vendor underwent a swab test upon his return to Sual, himself being considered as a Person Under Monitoring (PUM).

According to the mayor, Sual has a tie-up with the Chinese General Hospital for Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction Tests of 30 of its residents. Of the 30 tested, only the 28-year old turned positive.

Dr. Anna de Guzman, provincial health officer, said the 10 family members of the Sual case were placed on a14-day quarantine after specimens of their swab tests were submitted to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center for confirmation.

Meanwhile, two residents of Mangaldan, one a resident of Barangay Maasin and the other from Barangay Capulaan, tested negative in their confirmatory RT-CR tests a few days after they were found positive in Rapid Anti-body Tests on them on May 22.

Both patients were already released from their isolation and quarantine. (Leonardo Micua)
