High level of compliance with protocols hailed
LGUs REMINDED OF GCQ GUIDELINES
PANGASINAN residents are mostly compliant with the guidelines set by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) as demonstrated by the wearing of facemasks and social-physical distancing in all parts of the province under the General Community Quarantine (GCQ) protocol.
This was the observation shared by P/Colonel Redrico A. Maranan, provincial director of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office, in an exclusive interview with PUNCH on his assessment of the GCQ in the province.
He also pointed out that there have been no reports of town and barangay officials violating GCQ protocols unlike in previous weeks.
Two weeks ago, the PPPO reported 29 elected officials, 11,044 civilians were charged in court for various violations of Enhance Community Quarantine.
He added that although mayors have been authorized to enforce their own policies to combat the Covid threat, he warned that they should not be in violation of IATF national guidelines.
Maranan cited the complaints of several businessmen from Agno town who are prevented from going to Bani and Alaminos except on the schedules set by Alaminos and Bani ostensibly to carry out social distancing and prevent the crowding in malls and banks.
Maranan said GCQ seeks to relax rules to stimulate local economy so if towns insist on their restrictions, they would be restricting their own efforts to restore economic activities.
The Agno businessmen said the restrictions of the two towns prevent them from transacting daily bank transactions required by their business activities.
Alaminos City is the business center of western Pangasinan where most commercial banks are located. (Nora Dominguez)
