Dynamite fishing in Lingayen Gulf unchecked

DYNAMITE fishing has not stopped in the Lingayen Gulf at anytime during the General Community Quarantine.

This was bared by the report of the Binmaley Police on June 4 after the joint Binmaley Police and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) team responded to a call from a Bike Patrol about two small fishing boats off Barangay San Isidro Norte exploding dynamites (blast fishing).

Acting on the report, the responding team led by Rodolfo Altre of BFAR that rushed to the site found the two small fishing boats offshore abandoned.

Lawmen found and seized two pails loaded with 15 pieces of improvised dynamites used for illegal fishing. Since there was no fish that was found, the police suspected that the illegal fishers decided to flee before they could start their blast fishing operations.

The police are now conducting a follow up investigation on the identities of the blast fisher. (Leonardo Micua)
