600 FRONTLINERS TO BE COVERED

THE Dagupan City government has started its risk-based Covid-19 testing for the city’s frontliners.

The city‘s Covid-19 focal person Dr. Ophelia Rivera said the testing will cover some 600 government frontliners in the city that includes barangay health workers, nurses, firemen, rescue personnel, and police using the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test.

“The RT-PCR test is the standard for testing Covid-19, it being more accurate than the Rapid Antibody Test being conducted by others,” Rivera said.

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC), has allotted 1,500 RT-PCR test kits for the city.

The risk-based testing for an average of 120 per day by trained medical technologists from the Department of Health and City Health Office, is estimated to be completed this week.

The specimens will be sent to the central laboratory of the PRC in Metro Manila.

Last April 29, the Sangguniang Panlungsod passed Resolution No. 5919 that authorized City Mayor Brian Lim to enter into a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with PRC that identifies a government-accredited and certified testing facility, laboratories, diagnostic centers and organizations for COVID-19 tests.

Meanwhile, the city of Dagupan has not recorded any new Covid-19 cases in the past two weeks. (Ahikam Pasion)
