DAGUPAN City is back anew as COVID-19 free as its 14 frontliners who earlier tested positive for the coronavirus disease on June 1 eventually tested negative in their latest Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction tests

This was announced by Mayor Brian Lim in his tweet in his Twitter account late Friday afternoon. “Negative na sa Covid-19 ang 14 nating kasamahan sa city government na nagpositibo noong June 1. Ito ay ayon sa pinakahuling RT-PCR test na isinagawa sa kanila”.

He thanked all doctors, med-techs and frontliners in the city who continue to help contain the virus.

Of the 14 frontliners, 13 are confined at the Region 1 Medical Center and one at the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital in San Carlos City.

These frontliners are from the ranks of the Dagupan City Police, Public Order and Safety Office (POSO), Anti-Hawking section, City Social Welfare, and Development Office and two from the City Health Office, a dental doctor, and a medical doctor.

Twelve of the frontliners who recovered were listed in the Provincial Health Office (PHO) tally as all from Dagupan although one is from Bari, Mangaldan, and another from Bued, Calasiao; another was listed as from San Fabian and another from San Carlos City.

The recovery of the 14 frontliners effectively raised the number of patients who recovered from the coronavirus disease to 47.

It now leaves only 14 COVID-19 positive cases in Pangasinan, four each from Agno and Sual, three from Alaminos City, and one each from Bani, Mabini and Sta. Maria.

The announcement that Dagupan is now COVID-19-free came as the members of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Diseases and President Duterte will meet on Monday in Davao City to announce a reclassified status for regions and provinces throughout the country.

Observers believe Dagupan may now qualify for Modified General Community Quarantine, a status given two weeks ago but its implementation was suspended by Mayor Lim invoking his police power under the Local Government Code. (Leonardo Micua)
