DURING COMMUNITY QUARANTINE PERIOD

THE crime situation in Pangasinan has improved dramatically by 70% during the period March 17 to June 5, the first three stages of community quarantine, compared to the same period last year.

This was the assessment of P/Colonel Redrico A. Maranan, police provincial director, of the peace and order situation given the culled data throughout the period fighting Covid-19.

Although the police have been primarily focused on manning the checkpoints at the province’s borders and inter-town boundaries, Pangasinan PNP was closely watching the criminal activities with its ongoing Simultaneous Anti- Criminality Law Enforcement Operation (SACLEO), Maranan said.

He said, during this week alone from May 25 to June 5, 101 persons were arrested.

Anti-illegal drug operations resulted in the arrests of 12 persons for illegal possession of firearms, while 67 for possession of illegal drugs that included 13 users, all charged for violation of Republic Act 9165.

In the campaign against illegal gambling, 202 persons were arrested in 49 police operations and confiscated P51,628.

Meanwhile, 11 assorted firearms with expired licenses were surrendered by gun owners. (Nora Dominguez)
