Capitol eyes own molecular lab for COVID-19 testing

THE establishment of the province’s own molecular laboratory the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital (PPH) compound is underway.

Provincial Engineer Antonietta Delos Santos said the existing old emergency room located at the PPH will be converted into COVID-19 molecular laboratory.

She said the provincial government is expecting the final cost estimates next week.

It will be recalled that Governor Amado I. Espino III moved for the establishment of the province’s own molecular laboratory to hasten results of oropharyngeal swab testing that was taking 10 days.

Earlier, Provincial Health Officer Anna Ma. Teresa De Guzman said the provincial government already procured an automated PCR machine and some re-agents, 4,000 oral transport medium for oropharyngeal swabbing.

De Guzman said six medical technologists  are set to be trained at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) for the molecular laboratory. (PIO/RRB)
