Youth group launches ‘Ronda Kalusugan’ for elderlies

THE Go Biker youth organization decided to be frontliner in the fight against COVID-19 by visiting senior citizens in their homes in Bugallon town to check on their blood pressure and sugar level.

Go Biker Project founder Edren Llanillo said the group adopted the “Ronda Kalusugan” program as its mission using their bikes specifically to be on the lookout for primary medical concerns of the elderly during the COVID-19 crisis.

Llanilo said elderly people are more prone to high blood pressure and going to the hospitals or clinics or consultation puts them at risk exposing themselves to possible virus infection.

The group circulated their hotline mobile numbers in the town so its members can easily be alerted if an elderly needs his/her blood pressure and sugar checked. “Our volunteers immediately rush in their mountain bikes and attend to them,” he said.

Llanillo said at least 50 patients are being served daily by 10 trained biker volunteers from his group who are well oriented on self-protection amid the COVID-19 pandemic and equipped with first aid kits and medicines.

The Go Biker was launched in 2019 and has partnered with the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Bugallon in recruiting members as first aid responders. (Jerick Pasiliao)
