ASINGAN Mayor Carlos Lopez Jr. wrote Urdaneta City Mayor Julio Parayno III on May 19 and appealed to Parayno to allow the Asingan residents to purchase foods and medicines and access essential services in Urdaneta.

Lopez made the appeal after he received reports from Asingan residents that they were being refused entry into the city “and commercial centers to access basic commodities and essential services.”

Lopez said while he understands the need to establish strict protocols and precaution, he assured Parayno that Asingan’s local Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19 “is constantly on its toes, conducting strict border patrol, health surveillance, policy enforcement and crisis management.”

He added that the barangay where the two COVID-19 patients reside has been placed under total lockdown since May 18, intensive contact tracing has been done by the town’s Barangay Health Emergency Response Team, and the town is constantly sanitized by a disinfection team, while stringent border patrol in the town is in place.
