ALTHOUGH the number of COVID-19 cases in Pangasinan has risen to 40 with the inclusion of a 29-year old male from Barangay Dupac in Asingan (see story COVID-19 resurfaces in Asingan), the four remaining COVID-19 patients from Dagupan confined at the Region 1 Medical Center have all recovered and were set to be released on  May 15.

This was gleaned from the press release of the Public Information Office of Dagupan City that reported the four were finally cleared of the COVID -19 following the release of the results of their second swab tests on My 14 that turned out negative.

Dr. Ophelia Rivera, COVID-19 focal person in Dagupan, said the four who were admitted at Region 1 Medical Center on April 24 were due for release after three weeks of quarantine at the hospital.

The four include three R1MC medical frontliners and a 37-year old female resident in Barangay Bonuan Boquig.

With the discharge of the four, Mayor Brian Lim said that Dagupan City is now finally COVID-19-free.

This raised the number of COVID-19 patients who recovered to 31 against nine persons that died from the virus.

As this developed, Dr. Anna de Guzman, provincial health officer, clarified that there is still no confirmed COVID-19 case in Sta. Barbara contrary to a radio report obviously based on the Facebook post of Sta. Barbara Mayor Joel delos Santos.

The Facebook post reported that the wife of Barangay Captain Federico Almirol of Alibago, Sta. Barbara was reportedly found positive for COVID-19 in rapid testing conducted by a private hospital in Dagupan where she was brought for her brain surgery.

She called on all radio stations to base their reports only from official sources, citing the COVID-19 update the Provincial Health Office (PHO) is uploading on social media daily.

Another probable COVID-19 case was reported in Barangay Pias, Mapandan on May 6 after the patient underwent an anti-body test and was given a throat swab, according to a public announcement of Mapandan Mayor Anthony Penullar.

At press time, there is no official confirmation released yet by the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center. (Leonardo Micua)
