LINGAYEN Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil ordered the extension of his directive placing the town’s Barangay Libsong West under Extreme Enhanced Community Quarantine (EECQ) that began March 25.

In his new order on March 30, Bataoil cited the confirmation of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) that the Patient Under Investigation (PUI) from Barangay Libson West who died at the Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan on March 25 was due to the COVID-19 virus.

The PUI, a department head of the Lingayen government, was found to have a history of travel to Manila on March 14. He returned to Lingayen the following day and attended a department head meeting on March 16.

Because of the confirmation, Bataoil appealed to residents of Libsong West to take their home quarantine seriously as the contact tracing of all the persons whom the dead COVID-19 patient mingled with has been intensified.

Barangay Libsong West has been on total lockdown since March 25, no one was permitted to leave and enter but there were reports that some residents still managed to escape past checkpoint in Barangay Libsong West to report for work outside the village.

He called on the town’s residents to stay calm in spite of his declaration and observe all rules and regulations promulgated by the government.

Saying it is not easy fighting an unseen enemy, Bataoil called on all his constituents to take home quarantine seriously so the virus will not have a chance to spread. (Leonardo Micua)
