NBI nabs fake dentist

A FAKE dentist in Mangaldan town was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation Dagupan District Office (NBI-DADO) in an entrapment operation last Monday.

Atty. Rizaldy Jaymalin, NBI-DADO chief, identified the suspect as 55-year-old Wilma Ylang Almazan, who was operating in a dental clinic inside the Mangaldan Public Market.

The operation stemmed from the complaints of the Philippine Dental Association – Pangasinan Chapter that some 30 fake dentists are operating in the province based on reports from duped patients.

Jaymalin said Dr. Fercima Benitez, the head of PDA-Pangasinan Chapter, reported the operation of fake dental clinics and provided names of illegal dentists that included Almazan.

“He said an NBI agent went to to the Alamzan’s dental clinic to have his ‘false teeth’ made” and she was arrested after receiving the payment for consultation.

Jaymalin added that Almazan, who graduated with a degree in dentistry course but has not passed the government board exam, was working in a dental clinic owned by a certain “Dr. Custodio”.

Both Almazan and Custodio were charged for violation of Republic Act 9484, or the Philippine Dental Act of 2007.

“We will continue our operations until we have shut down these illegal dental clinics”, said Jaymalin. (Ahikam Pasion)
