THE Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) will soon create the Person-In-Crisis Inter-Agency Action Committees (PIC-IAAC) to help individuals with suicidal tendencies.

P/Lt. Rosemarie Reate, head of the committee on public safety and security, said the PIC-IAAC will primarily provide immediate intervention for individuals with suicidal thoughts.
Reate cited data from the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Department of Health (DOH) that show 233 suicide cases were recorded in the province from 2017 to 2019: 42 incidents in 2017; 104 in 2018 and 87 in 2019.

“And 206 (88 percent) of the incidents involved males, while 122 (52 percent) of the cases belong to 20 to 45 age group,” she pointed out.

“It is alarming and because most of the (suicide) incidents were caused by severe depression rooted from complexities in family relationships while some, especially students, were caused by bullying and academic pressures,” she said.

Before the PIC-IAAC is activated, personnel who will be assigned to the 24-hour help desk will undergo intensive training on how to handle situation of individuals with self-conflicts.
PPPO director Col. Redrico Maranan will serve as the chairman of the PIC-IAAC while Dr. Magnolia Brabante of the DOH Pangasinan will be vice-chair.

Seven sub-committees from the PNP, Department of the Interior and Local Government, DOH, Provincial Health Office, Social Welfare Offices, Department of Education, media and religious sectors were also created. (Jerick Pasiliao)
