Dagupan POSO fines riders with nutshell helmets

MOTORCYCLES riders in Dagupan City who wear nutshell (half) helmets will be accosted and fined by the Dagupan City Public Order and Safety Office (POSO).

The warning was issued by Robert Christopher Erfe-Mejia, POSO chief, citing the city’s Ordinance No. 1922-2008, that makes wearing nutshell helmets a violation as instituted by the Republic Act 10054, (or Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009) that specifies only use of full face and J-type helmets.

He said RA 10054 does not include nutshell helmets as ‘standard protective motorcycle helmet’.

As of Wednesday, the POSO Dagupan already apprehended 118 violators.

“Riders who violate or don’t wear any standard helmet are fined P1,500,” Erfe-Mejia said.
Moreover, Erfe-Mejia warned motorists and riders that ignore citation tickets and do not pay the fines will receive a subpoena to face a case in court that will be filed by the city legal office.

“If they fail to appear, a warrant of arrest will be applied against them,” he said. (Ahikam Pasion)
