PANGASINAN UPDATES

AS of 9 am, today (Sunday), updates from the Pangasinan Provincial Health Office listed 12 confirmed COVID-19 cases, four of whom had died, 48 patients under investigation (PUI), 18 had been admitted and under treatment, and 28 others had been discharged.

Two had died in confinement, one of whom died before the results of her swab tests could be released. The third is from Urbiztondo, former Board Member Raul Sison. The fourth  was a 72-year old female from Basista who came from Manila. They have all been cremated.

So far, 76,072 were tagged as persons under monitoring (PUMs), 51,434  of whom are undergoing the mandatory 14-day quarantine; 24,542 others completed their quarantine and 96 others have incomplete quarantine or have left the province before they completed their quarantine.

These were bared by Dr. Ana de Guzman, provincial health officer.

A 70-year-old male from Rosales town – brother of the 68-year-old Filipino-American citizen who died last March 18 due to COVID-19, is one the latest confirmed positive patient.

As of writing, the patient is in stable condition and  extensive contact tracing on persons he had a close contact continues.

“Almost 98% of the persons whom the deceased Fil-Am COVID patient contacted were already found and are being monitored,” said de Guzman.

Another confirmed positive case is a 29-year-old man from Barangay Nancayasan, Urdaneta City who had a history of travel to Japan. Feeling the symptoms of the disease, he consulted with a private hospital on May 14. But while undergoing medication, the symptoms persisted and was later referred to the Region 1 Medical Center where he was confined on May 16. His samples were collected for COVID-19 testing.

Mayor Julio Parayno III said the man is currently on stable condition. He revealed that contact-tracing on the persons the man had a close contact is now going on. Those already traced were informed to self-quarantine.

The other positive case is a 43-year-old male from Salomague Sur, Bugallon who with five others walked from Mandaluyong City to Sta. Ignacia, Tarlac on their way home to Bugallon. Complaining of sore throat, he was examined in Mandaluyong and was considered a PUI.

Despite this, he and five others trekked on March 24 from Mandaluyong to Sta. Ignacia, from where relatives picked them up. Upon reaching Bugallon, he concealed  his medical condition. He was found on May 26 to be positive for COVID-19.

Second District Congressman Jomel Espino said as a result of this, his mother, Mayor Priscilla Espino ordered the lockdown of Barangay Salomague Sur for two weeks, with the residents advised not to leave their homes as food will be delivered to them.

The PUIs confined at the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital (PPH) in San Carlos City are a 70-year-old male from Malasiqui, and a 54-year-old female, also of Malasiqui, identified as a co-worker of a doctor from Bayambang who died of COVId-19. The wife of the doctor was reported to have died too at the Lung Center of the Philippines but she was not included into the statistics released by PHO.

Meanwhile, two other patients under investigation died while awaiting swab test result, according to Dr. De Guzman.

This includes a 25-year-old PUI from Barangay Ranao, Bani who died while in confinement at the Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City.

The other PUIs are a 75-year old male of Poblacion, Infanta who has no history of travel to areas with COVID-19 cases. and 67-year old female from Asingan who has a history of travel to London, England.

The death of the PUI from Lingayen on March 25 prompted Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil to place Barangay Libsong West under EECQ  in order to restrict movements of residents in the community.

The deceased PUI from Barangay Ranao in Bani traveled to Tondo, Manila. Likewise, the dead PUI from Lingayen went to Manila on March 14 and returned to Lingayen the next day.

Results of the PUI’s swab test are usually received after 3 or 4 days but it is now taking long for the Research Institute of Tropical Medicine (RITM) to release the results because of the big number of PUIs being tested all over the country. (Leonardo Micua/Ahikam Pasion)
