THE Aboitiz Power Corp (APC) is set to invest P34-billion for the generation of almost 1,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity from wind and solar energy in seven towns in Pangasinan.

Cris Faelnar, senior vice president for operations and maintenance of Aboitiz Power Corp., presented the proposed project to the provincial board initially to be constructed in the towns of Bugallon, Aguilar and San Manuel.

Aboitiz Power Asst. Vice President Joefry Paulo said about 650 MW of solar electricity is being eyed to be produced in San Manuel, Labrador, Bugallon, Aguilar and Mangatarem, Infanta, Mabini, and 325 MW of wind energy in Aguilar, Bugallon, Mangatarem or a total of 975 MW.

“Our goal is to expand our renewable energy portfolio to 3,000 megawatts by 2030 and close to 1,000 megawatts of that will be here in Pangasinan,” Faelnar said.

Faelnar said an endorsement from the provincial board and a one-year study on the potential of the wind capacity in the targeted sites will be required  to determine the sustainability of the project and eventually pursue the proposed project.

He said APC already have entered into an agreement with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for the implementation of the project since it will be constructed mostly in public and forest land.

Faelnar said APC belongs to the renewable energy group and has been in power generation and distribution for more than 30 years already and cited the number of of thermal power facilities it operates around the country.

He added that PAC owns VECO,  the second-largest electric distribution facility in the country, next to Meralco., and the third-largest electric distribution utility in the country located in Davao.

In retail electricity services, Faelnar said APC “provides solutions for our customers as well as providing efficient energy solutions for LGUs as well as the private sector”. (PhilStar Wire Service/ECV)
