RESCUE FROM COVID-19 GROUND ZERO

THE Sangguniang Bayan of Mangaldan was all praises for one member of the volunteer rescue team from the Department of Foreign Affairs and adopted a resolution last week honoring him for his efforts and bravery.

Resolution No. 2020-31 lauded Rowel Garcia Casaclang, a resident of Barangay Poblacion in Mangaldan, and a Foreign Service Officer IV as Provincial Assistant at the Office of the Migrant Workers Office of the Department of Foreign Affairs, was one of the volunteers that went to Wuhan, China to help repatriate OFWs trapped in that city.

CASACLANG

Casaclang, currently under quarantine in the New Clark City, Tarlac, said the rescue team composed of five health workers from the Department of Health, three diplomats from DFA and two officers from the Philippine Consulate General in Shanghai.

Wuhan City is the ground zero, or point of origin of the novel Corona virus, now known as Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), that affected more than 40,000 people and killed more than 1,000 individuals as of this writing.

Councilor Aldrin Soriano, author of the resolution, cited Casaclang who said he was “merely heeding to a call of duty as it is just part of my job”.

“It may be a call of duty for him (Casaclang), but for him to agree to be there, at the epicenter of the Covid-19, and rescuing our fellow Filipinos is a display of compassion, nationalism, bravery, and heroism”, said Soriano.

Soriano said Casaclang’s heroism serves as a testament that Filipinos are willing to risk their lives in order to serve others.

“We want to recognize him not only as a fellow native of Mangaldan but because we want everybody to emulate his acts in all things we do”, said Soriano.

As of writing, Casaclang is still under the 14-day quarantine period.

“Allow me to say that the success of the operation must not be credited only to us who were on board that plane last weekend. The success belongs to everyone who took part in this operation since the day it was thought of. They, too, must be recognized”, Casaclang said in his Facebook post. (Ahikam Pasion)
