THE first One Town, One Product (OTOP) Next Gen hub in Binmaley Museum in Barangay Poblacion showcasing the products of the different micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the province has been drawing crowds since it was was opened on January 24 this year.

According to Natalia Dalaten, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Pangasinan provincial director, the hub, featuring food and non-food items by some 36 MSMEs in the province, aims to promote OTOP Next Gen products for retail and wholesale trading.

Dalaten pointed out that OTOP Next Gen program is different from the usual OTOP program that required the endorsement of the local government unit (LGU) before it can be recognized.

“The OTOP Next Gen does not need LGU endorsement of the LGU as long as the product uses materials that can be found in the locality,” she said.  The OTOP hub is open on Monday to Friday.

Dalaten said another OTOP hub will be opened in Sison town soon.

Meanwhile, DTI is screening enrollees for the Kapatid Mentor Me Program (KMMP) that will train the chosen MSMEs how to start and sustain their business via proper accounting, understanding legal issues, proper production, techniques, financial and marketing management.

The KMMP is limited to 20 to 25 MSMEs per batch. (Helen Matin)
