San Carlos’ senior citizens received social pension

THE 4,027 qualified indigent senior citizens out of 20,000 in San Carolos City already received their social pension for this year from the national government.

According to San Carlos City Social Welfare and Development Officer Jesusa Viduya, the distribution of the P6,500 social pension already started during the first week of January.

Only validated and qualified beneficiaries whose status in life have been checked.

“We have conducted series of validation to ensure that only those qualified (senior citizen) will be able to receive social pension,” she added.

Qualified under the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Memorandum Circular Number 04 Series of 2019, (Omnibus Guideline in the Implementation of the Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens) only those 60 years old and above who’s frail, sickly or with disability are qualified for the pension; those who do not have pension Government Service Insurance System (GSIS); Social Security System (SSS); Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO); Armed Forces and Police Mutual Benefit Association; No Permanent Source of Income and senior citizens that have no regular support of family and relatives.

Of more than 20,000 senior citizens here, only 4,027 were identified as indigent, thus making them qualified of the financial aid from the government. (Helen Martin)
