PNP: Still no court case vs. suspects in Espino ambush

AFTER FOUR MONTHS

IT’S been more than four months since former Fifth District Rep. Amado Espino Jr. and his party were ambushed on September 11 last year in Barangay Magtaking, San Carlos City, where he and another were wounded and two of his bodyguards were killed, but no case has been filed before the court of justice against the suspects named by police investigators.

This was pointed out by P/Lt. Colonel Norman Florentino, deputy police provincial director for administration, in response to a question posed by The PUNCH during the KBP Forum last week.

Sa pagkakaalam ko, hindi pa po,” said Florentino when asked if the suspects earlier tagged by the police as responsible for that ambuscade are already facing charges in court. “

The police already considered the case partly solved right after the filing of the complaints against 12 persons and 10 John Does before the City Prosecutors Office in San Carlos City.

The Regional Special Investigation Task Group (RSITG) Espino is still continuing with its investigation into the case as the 10 John Does include the financiers and the mastermind.

RSITG Espino is headed by P/Colonel Ismael Yu, chief of the intelligence and investigation division of Police Regional Office 1 and P/Colonel Redrico Maranan, police provincial director of Pangasinan.

Asked why it’s taking the prosecutors so long to determine probable cause, Florentino admitted he is not aware of the issues confronting the city prosecutor’s office in San Carlos City.

He maintained that 12 have already been identified as suspects in the case and the assorted high-powered guns recovered from the two getaway vehicles were already submitted for ballistic tests. (Leonardo Micua)
