Fewer cops in Pangasinan charged before Napolcom

THE policemen in Region 1 are fearless but they fear only one thing–being involved in administrative cases that may affect their career growth.

This was how National Police Commission Regional Director Monday Samson described a career in the police during the KBP forum on Thursday.

Samson said in 2017 administrative cases against policemen were only 60 plus. It was lower in 2018 and in 2019, the cases filed were only 21.

He pointed out that no extortion case was filed against any policeman in the region.

Of the 21 cases last year, what remain are six cases and are already due for resolution. These cases, according to Samson, involved physical injuries, crime against children and women, conduct unbecoming and grave misconduct.

Three of these were filed against three policemen from Binalonan and one against a policeman at the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office in Lingayen. All these were for grave misconduct.

The rest of the cases filed were against policemen in other parts of the Ilocos region, he said.

Samson said this alone manifested that policemen in Region 1 are true to their sworn duty to protect the people and do not want to tarnish their uniform.

In 2020, 10 policemen have appealed their dismissal from the service. (Leonardo Micua)
