A businessman and a student were wounded when a farmer shot them on New Year’s Eve in Barangay Gumot, San Fabian.

P/Major Francisco Castillo, town police chief, identified the victims as Roberto Casipit, 37, resident of Inmalog Norte, and 16-year old John Kenneth Madiola, of Barangay Gumot, both from San Fabian.

The suspect, Eduardo Molina, 61, from Gumot, San Fabian, was reportedly having a drinking spree with Casipit, his son-in-law, and Madiola, his grandson, when he pulled his cal. 357 revolver handgun and fired at the two.

Casipit was hit on the stomach while Madiola suffered a wound on his left leg.

The victims were rushed by their relatives at Rosario District Hospital in Rosario, La Union for medical treatment.

Castillo said the victims were mum about the incident but refused to cite the suspect for the shooting.

He said it was not the victims’ family that reported the incident to the local police and the family was even surprised to see the lawmen at the hospital to conduct an investigation.

The suspect was eventually arrested and the weapon he used was recovered by the police.

Castillo said the family has not filed charges against Molina. (PhilStar Wire Service/ECV)
