Dagupan seeks sisterhood pact with Manila

THE Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) presided by Vice Mayor Bryan Kua, passed a resolution expressing the intent of the city of Dagupan to enter into a sisterhood agreement with the city of Manila whose mayor is Isko Moreno Domagoso.

The resolution was authored by Councilor Cisco Flores following a call made by Mayor Brian Lim on Mayor Domagoso at the Manila City Hall on Monday where the latter conveyed the desire of the city of Dagupan to be Manila’s sister city.

Lim was accompanied by Councilors Flores and Michael Fernandez, and former Councilor Red Erfe-Mejia.

The SP resolution will be forwarded to the city council of Manila headed by Vice Mayor Honeylet Lacuna, which is expected to pass a similar resolution endorsing the sisterhood agreement with Dagupan.

In sponsoring the measure, Flores said Dagupan can learn a lot from the city of Manila if it becomes a sister city of Dagupan, adding that Manila’s best practices in governance can be adopted by Dagupan.

Councilor Fernandez, who was coordinating with fellow councilors of Manila for a Philippine Councilors League event when Mayor Lim made the call on Mayor Domagoso, endorsed the sisterhood relationship because it will be a big boon to Dagupan.

“We can learn a lot from the city of Manila on many aspects of governance, particularly in revenue collection, if the sisterhood agreement is realized,” Fernandez said. (Leonardo Micua)
