TANGHALANG Sandaang Pulo Cultural Group Inc. (TSP), a non-profit organization in Pangasinan was recently acknowledged as Aliw Awards.’ 2019’s Best Cultural/Theater Group.

TSP’s founding president BenJan Natividad said his group was overjoyed by the recognition considering what they’ve been through as a theater group.

“I actually cried when I got home because our sacrifices for our projects somehow  paid off,” Natividad said.

The group was formed in July 2017 with the advocacy to help local theatre artists strengthen theatre and arts in Pangasinan.

He said he sees the advocacy as another way to encourage and keep the youth away from drugs and other vices.

The RSP’s major production was the Palanca Award winning play “Baka Sakali” written by Jose Dennis Teodosio. It also performs children’s plays in elementary schools in Alaminos City.

It also conducts free ‘Lakbay Aral’ (educational tour) projects, promotes adopt-a-school-project, organizes theatre workshops.

The group currently is composed of Natividad’s friends since his college days.

Natividad said they hope to gain more support for their fund-raising activities.

TSP bested theater groups from Mandaluyong, Metro Manila and Tagbilaran, Bohol.

Regine Velasquez was awarded Entertainer of the Year, and Lea Salonga as the People’s Choice awardee.

The awarding was held on Dec.17, 2019 at the Manila Hotel. (Helen Martin)
