THE Hundred Islands National Park (HINP) in Alaminos City earned here P44.73 million in tourism receipts from 522,917 in 2019 from local and foreign tourists.

City Tourism Officer Miguel Sison, however, said the last year’s tourist arrivals was lower by 4.5 percent compared to tourist arrivals of 2018 and attributed it to the 29 days of gale warnings and typhoons that prevented access to the islands.

HINP is accessible only by boats from the Lucap Wharf at the city proper.

Its 2019 data shows 507,929 domestic tourists and 14,988 foreign tourists visited HINP.

The peak of tourist arrivals was in May with a total of 65,604 tourists who visited the islands.

Presently, there are now eight islands open for activities, namely, Governor’s island, Children’s island and Quezon Island, Clave Island, Lopez Island, Marcos Island, and the Old Scout Island. The Bat and Monkey islands are just for touring.

He said the activities being enjoyed by the tourists include banana boat ride, jet-ski ride, island-to-island ziplines, helmet diving, island hopping and swimming.

In a recent interview, Mayor Arth Brian Celeste said the city will continue to develop and create more activities in the national park to attract more tourists.

HINP is the third most visited tourist destination in Pangasinan, next to the Provincial Capitol Grounds in Lingayen town, and the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag. (Helen Martin)
