THE PADACbo (Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council Takbo) 2019 staged last Friday, December 20 to help promote consciousness in efforts to eradicate illegal drug trade and use in the province was a huge success.

The activity organized by the provincial government in partnership with Sanggguniang Kabataan (SK) provincial federation was participated in by thousands of SK officials, Katipunan ng Kabataan Members, youth organizations, marathon enthusiasts, athletes, students, and out-of-school youths.

SK provincial federation president Jerome Vic Espino said the activity that included a lecture on negative impact of illegal drugs on one’s health by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Ilocos regional office created greater awareness among the youth.

Espino said the activity was aimed at demand reduction among the young people who are one of the most vulnerable sectors to illegal drug use.

“When we say youth, the age bracket is from 15 to 30 years old,” Espino said.

PADAC secretariat and PADACbo chairman Carlo Resurrecion said it was important for young people to realize the importance of sports and having a good health.

The marathon had three categories; the 5-kilometer open category; 10k open category, and 21k open category.

Some participants availed of free billeting space at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center, while provincial buses were provided for the participants from Urdaneta City, Alaminos City, Dagupan City, and San Carlos City.

The winners received medals and cash prizes while 10 mountain bikes, 10 cellphones, 20 basketball balls, 20 volleyball balls, 20 chess boards, and 100 t-shirts were raffled off after the marathon. (Helen Martin)
