LOS ANGELES, California – Filipinos living in the United States were elated by the performance of Philippine athletes during the recently concluded South East Asia (SEA) Games.

Impressed by efforts to outpoint the other 10 participating countries with PH harvest of 149 gold, 117 silver and 120 bronze medals or a total of 386 medals, the Fil-Am community celebrated Philippines victory.

Vietnam, the next country to host the regional sports fest was a far-second capturing 97 gold, 85 silver and 104 bronze medals totaling 286 in all.

They were one in attributing the success of the regional games to Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano whose leadership speaks volumes amid the criticisms from his political detractors.

They rued the tendency of the Manila media to sensationalize isolated glitches which otherwise could have happened to any host country and yet these were solved and remedied in an orderly fashion.

Pinoys are also thankful to Ermin F Garcia, Jr., publisher and editor of the Sunday Punch for regular posting in his Facebook updating overseas Filipinos of the schedule of events and the running results in the different sports events.

The opening and closing ceremonies showcased the host country’s culture giving the visitors an insight why the Philippines earned the billing as the “Pearl of the Orient Seas”. (Leonardo Galvez, Correspondent)
