ONE town, out of the 44 towns and four cities in Pangasinan, is still without a fire station, while five towns are still awaiting the completion of the construction of their fire station buildings.

According to the Fire Supt. Noel Gagalac, provincial fire marshal, Burgos town cannot start construction of its fire station unless and until a lot is donated for the station.

He added that Alaminos City and San Quintin recently finished the construction of their fire stations.

Meanwhile, Fire Supt. Eddie Jucutan, Gagalac’s predecessor, said, Bautista town had finished its building in October.

The construction of the fire stations in Bayambang, Umingan, Villasis and Lingayen were due for award last Thursday and are expected to start in January next year.

Also already bidded fire station projects were in Alcala, Urdaneta City, San Carlos City, Bani and Labrador during Jucutan’s term

There are fire stations that are housed in a building owned by the Philippine National Police but these are located separately.

Meanwhile, Gagalac said the Bureau of Fire Protection of the Philippines is ready to provide a fire truck as soon as a fire station is constructed.

Meanwhile, Gagalac said the Lingayen Fire Station is doing a first in the region – its fire truck is manned entirely by seven all-women firefighters.

It is the second in the country that has an all-women team as he pointed out that women firefighters underwent the same training with their male counterparts  before they were deployed. (PhilStar Wire Service/ECV)
