NFA eases palay procurement for farmers

BINALONAN – The National Food Authority (NFA) Eastern Pangasinan has eased the process in buying farmers’ palay by foregoing with the administrative requirements earlier imposed.

This, after farmers have indicated preference to sell their palay to private traders even at lower rate, P12-P18 per kilogram, because no administrative requirements are imposed compared to NFA’s P19 per kilogram but compliance with administrative requirements.

Veralew de Vera, NFA Eastern Pangasinan manager, said that because of this, the agency has decided to drop the submission of passbooks imposed on farmers so the latter can take advantage of NFA’s higher buying price.

“We will no longer require passbooks only a certification from their barangays, to prove that they are legitimate farmers”, said de Vera.

He added that to further make it easier to farmers, the NFA will conduct scheduled mobile procurement.

“A team from the NFA will go to towns under our jurisdiction to buy the farmers’ palay so farmers need not rent trucks to deliver their palay,” de Vera added.

While NFA Eastern Pangasinan currently houses 300,000 cavans of rice in their warehouses, the agency encourages farmers to sell their palay to NFA. (Ahikam Pasion)
