PANGASINAN chess player Cherry Ann Mejia has joined the Philippine team to compete in the 30th Southeast Asian Games with the full support of her family and the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

Her mother, Eva told The PUNCH how grateful she was that her daughter is living her dream of representing the country in the SEA Games and had this message for Cherry Ann: ”Now that you are given the chance, you should do everything you can, keep praying, keep trusting, keep fighting the good fight, and with all that you do, give all the praises due to God.”

Her father, Raul, said her joining of the competition is a great honor and privilege for their family that they will be supporting her in her quest to bring pride and glory for the country.

The SP earlier passed a resolution recognizing and expressing support for Mejia and other Pangasinan athletes joining the SEAG.

Mejia was hailed “Woman FIDE Master” in 2009 and remains active as FIDE chess master of the National Chess Federation of the Philippine. (Melody Valenton)
