THE Dagupan City Health Office (CHO) assured residents and visitors that the preparation of food along the city’s Food Strip along Zamora Street has passed sanitation standards imposed by it.

This was stressed after the Pangasinan Provincial Health Office recorded 42 deaths out of 8, 684 cases of acute gastroenteritis (AGE) in the province – from January 1 to November 8, 2019.

Dr. Ophelia Rivera, city health officer, said the operation of the stalls in Dagupan’s Food Strip are being closely monitored to ensure that they comply with the city’s health and safety standards because AGE is caused primarily by improper food handling,

Even food handlers in the stalls are not exempted.

“Food handlers have been required to undergo food handling training, medical examinations and laboratory tests to ensure that they are not sick,” Rivera added.

The food handlers who passed the tests are issued blue cards to attest to their compliance.

“It is our way of protecting the consumers, and protecting our food stall owners as well”, Rivera said.

She urged the public to report unsanitary practices observed by customers at the Food Strip so stall owner can be investigated.

Rivera also advised Dagupeños to observe sanitary practices when preparing food to prevent the household members from contracting AGE. (Ahikam Pasion)
