THE Department of Labor and Employment-Regional Office I ((DOLE-RO1) has released P240,000 in total livelihood assistance to 12 rebel returnees in Sitio Surod, Barangay Barlo in Mabini town.

The DOLE Kabuhayan Program consists of farming tools and materials to help the returnees become effective agri-preneurs.

“Our aim is to reintegrate the beneficiaries into the community to make them productive again and become part of the government’s development agenda,” DOLE-RO I Regional Director Nathaniel Lacambra said.

The former rebels, issued with a Certificate of Amnesty signed by the President,
are engaged in agricultural activities such as farming, animal raising, growing of fruit-bearing trees, among others.

The Kabuhayan Program is a poverty-reduction strategy that reduces the vulnerability risks of the poor, vulnerable and marginalized workers through livelihood and entrepreneurial opportunities and to help bring the government’s anti-insurgency efforts in remote communities, which are often the breeding grounds for local terrorism.(PhilStar Wire Service/ECV)
